PRESS RELEASE

Dr. Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim called on His Excellency, Shri B.P. Singh, the Governor of Sikkim, today at 10.30 am and tendered his resignation along with that of the Council of Ministers.

In his capacity as President, Sikkim Democratic Front Party, Dr. Chamling submitted the unanimous resolution passed on 18th May, 2009 by the 30 newly elected members of the Sikkim Democratic Front to the Eighth Sikkim Legislative Assembly electing him as the Leader of the House and put forward his claims to form the next Government before the Governor.

H.E. the Governor, Shri B.P. Singh while accepting Dr. Chamling’s resignation and that of the Council of Ministers, requested him to continue in office along with his colleagues till the new Council of Ministers are sworn in.

In exercise of the powers vested in the Governor under Article 164 of the Constitution of India, H.E. the Governor, Shri B.P. Singh requested Dr. Chamling to speedily constitute the Council of Ministers to aid and advise the Governor in exercise of his functions in consonance with the provisions of the Constitution.

The Swearing-in-ceremony is slated at 9.45 am on Wednesday, the 20th May, 2009.
